Midsummer Festival celebrated 20 years of TTT

Welcoming 700 people across 7 venues, our Midsummer Festival wove together a sunny weekend of theatre, music and visionary futures. It was a joy to reflect, to celebrate and to imagine what next after 20 years of Transition Town Totnes…

Such a thriving and co-created weekend is testament to the rich web of relationships that has been nurtured over these past two decades, across Totnes and beyond. Transition Town Totnes offers huge thanks to the community members, projects, businesses, venues, artists, volunteers and more so committed to positive collective action who made the festival what it was - an epic community effort!

Saturday morning’s Solstice Walk to the Life Cairn celebrated the beauty and grieved the loss of life on earth at this time

Wendy Stayte who established TTT’s Incredible Edible project back in 2007 shared some reflections from the event on the Friday: “Being part of the History of TTT event on Friday evening was heart-warming… to see many familiar old faces 20 years on still here, and welcome new people who'd never come across TTT before.”

Field Recordings From the Future transformed St John’s as Rob Hopkins and Mr Kit travelled back in time to share their findings from a visionary future

Tilly Postlethwaite joined the festivities as a representative of Transition Liverpool, sharing about her experience of hosting a stall at the showcase: “I enjoyed the company of Transition Together, the national level of the movement, and Transition Okehampton, another Transition initiative, along with TTT projects and Transition adjacent enterprises.

“It was evident that the community participating in the weekend’s events was genuinely excited to explore the potential of Transition beyond Totnes, whether in a large northern city like Liverpool or another initiative based in Devon or overseas. The Transition Movement is designed to be adaptable to various locations and contexts, and it was a pleasure to demonstrate that in a tangible way.

“TTT did an amazing job organising a diverse itinerary, highlighting the movement's heart-based values, exploring its early days, its continuous evolution with 270 transition groups across Wales and England, and how the voluntary, community, and social sectors are fostering an alternative, optimistic future.”
