Transition Town Totnes (TTT) is looking for new Trustees to join our amazing team. We’re looking for enthusiastic people wishing to help inspire and empower their community through supporting our charity to thrive.
About us
TTT is a community-led charity (no. 1138865) with 20 years’ experience that exists to strengthen the local economy, reduce our environmental impact, and build our resilience as we adapt to a changing climate. For more about our aims, you can read our strategy here: LINK
We are supported by a small staff team and an amazing 105 volunteers who last year dedicated over 3000 volunteer hours.
What do we do?
We run events and projects looking at local economics, community cohesion, energy use, food growing, nature recovery, heritage skills and much more. These projects focus on global issues through the lens of local grassroots connectivity. Last year we had 12 main projects that engaged around 4,790 participants, our highest since 2016/17.
Who do we work with?
Our work reaches across all areas of our community with the intention of building long term supportive relationships. To do this we work with various council bodies, organisations, businesses and projects across Totnes and Devon. We also occasionally work in partnership on larger projects, such as Devon Grows Flax.
What does Transition mean?
Transition means changing the way things are, towards a more connected and just world. The Transition movement emphasises this change through local, community-led actions. It explores new ways we can work together to create communities that are fair, strong, and healthy for everyone. This model started in Totnes and spun out across 67 countries and over 500 communities around the world.
What can I do?
We are looking for a new Trustee with the passion, enthusiasm, and experience to make a difference to our organisation as we evolve and innovate. We currently have 4 Trustees whose broad experience includes: law, education, policy and campaigning, health, coaching and organisational management. The TTT Board of Trustees works to ensure the charity is properly governed and managed, and to provide strategy, scrutiny, and overarching support for our team.
What are we looking for?
We are ideally looking for any of the following desired skills or experience:
- Experience of organisational governance
- Experience of finance and accountancy
- Experience of evaluating and monitoring an organisation’s impact and effectiveness
- Experience of HR management
- An understanding of the wellbeing and burnout support which enables sustainable activity in the small charity sector
- Experience working with marginalised communities
- Live in close proximity to Totnes
We will aim to recruit multiple trustees but we are looking for 1 new Trustee with experience of finance and accountancy to:
- Support our Finance Officer in ensuring that proper accounting records are kept, financial resources are properly controlled, invested and economically spent, in line with good governance, legal and regulatory requirements
- Ensure that the charity has appropriate financial policies including on reserves, and reviews them at regular intervals
- Advise on the financial implications of the organisation’s strategic plans and annual business plans
We generally meet on a Friday morning once a month but can be flexible depending on the candidate.
