Exciting news from Transition Homes

After many many years of hard work and dedicated vision for local affordable sustainable housing, Transition Homes is making huge progress at Clay Park. After 15+ years in the making, growing from the Housing group into a Community Land Trust, the builders, Clayewater, are making steady progress on the 39 social rented homes; and are on track for completion this time next year!

Progress at Clay Park

If you've driven between Totnes and Dartington recently, you may have noticed the terraces rising up from the ground. The first terrace has its roof on, with solar panels installed, and the roof trusses are being installed on the next terraces. The windows and doors should be in on the first terrace by Christmas. The builders, Clayewater, are still on track for completion this time next year.

The 39 social rented homes will be offered to people who are on the Devon Home Choice list and who have local connections in accordance with Transition Homes Allocations Policy. Allocations will probably start in August.

Come and join the team

Transition Homes is a small community charity with seven trustees who live in Totnes and Dartington who have been involved for over a decade. As volunteers, the trustees have found the land, got through planning, secured funding for the build and with the support of Aster Homes, got the housing off the ground. We have much to celebrate, but still have projects to deliver, so we're looking for some additions to the team with enthusiasm and energy to make the Clay Park development a community.

There are several new project opportunities to get involved in. There is more than an acre of green space for growing food and restoring nature, working with the residents. There will be a community building, self-built with residents and volunteers using natural materials, with the potential to run courses, and eventually develop new housing projects.

No specific skills are required, just capacity and a willingness to get stuck in. Anybody who has a background in community building, fundraising, or any land-based skills would of course be particularly welcome. There are just a few meetings a year, and the time commitment will depend on what you choose to get involved in.
