Yeoland

What is Yeoland?

·        Yeoland has been kindly gifted to TTT for naturerestoration to ensure it’s protection and community access in perpetuity

·        6 acre field with a woodland edge

·        Some steep areas and lower more level areas

·        The eastern boundary touches the HarbourneRiver.

·        5 minutes from Totnes along the Plymouth Road.

·        Existing woodland and nut trees planted by Skythe previous land custodian

It will be:

·        A site for community land access,

·        For increased biodiversity and naturerestoration at the heart of the work that we do

·        Workshops and educational events organisedthroughout the year.

With the support of funding from the National Lottery,Awards For All and South West Water’s Better Futures Fund we have been able to recruit Jules, our new Land Steward to help instigate and implement plans for the land.

‍“It’s great to be joining TTT as the Land steward for Yeoland to support the development of the site for increased biodiversity, food resilience and ways for people to get involved and come visit work and learn with the land.

"I have experience as a food grower, project developer and past work as an architect delivering community-led projects.  I’m really excited to bring this together to support Yeoland and create a place for resilient and thriving habitats with human collaboration.  In the context of our changing climate I’m passionate about nature recovery and bringing the principles of 30x30 to the 6 acre site. Alongside this role I work on two farms in Devon.  We’ll keep you all upto date with future events and workshops at Yeoland as the project develops. A bit more about the aims of Yeoland:

Nature restoration - we will work alongside otherorganisations and TTT volunteers to implement nature restoration works. Forexample, new tree planting, orchard planting, meadow restoration, new hedges aforest garden / shared growing spaces.

 Education and Involvement - through events and workshops wewill aim to deliver different learning opportunities for the community from speciesidentification and land observations, soil health workshops and soil testing toharvesting and site maintenance, tree planting and design workshops.

 Access - As we implement the necessary infrastructure forthe site we aim to offer the land to youth groups, facilitators and regularvolunteer groups to enable people to become both stewards of the land and habitatwhilst supporting those that come to the land through nature connection andconnection to the more than human.

 The project will be carried out through various events,workshops to enable volunteers to care for, learn and come together as a community.

So Far this year:

In spring / summer 2026 we have grown flax on the site as ajoined up project with Devon Grows Flax. This has involved four community eventsat Yeoland including: land preparation and seed sowing of flax, weeding andtool making, flax flower appreciation and processing some flax, and the first flax harvest at Yeoland.

Why?

By connecting communities to Yeoland the project hopes to:

·        Create a deep understanding of our relationshipwith the land, soil and habitat of the land.

·        Create shared experiences to catalyse othernature restoration projects, ideas and learning.

·        Build a resilient site for nature restorationand an exemplar of a climate resilient landscapes for biodiversity and human resilience.
