Transition Youth Theatre

What's it all about?

Please note: this is no longer an active project. However, we're always interested in new projects starting or old projects being re-ignited. If you'd be interested in re-igniting this project in Totnes, please get in touch by emailing info@transitiontowntotnes.org

The Transition Youth Theatre, led by Encounters, is for 13-18 year olds in the Totnes area, to create performance about the joys and challenges of being alive at this time. This Youth Theatre is a partnership project with Transition Town Totnes.

“I feel that I am gaining a lot of confidence, and also gaining a lot of trust for the people that are involved and it makes you think about things that you wouldn’t usually think about.”

“I am gaining confidence and awareness of others, their feelings and thoughts. Also the importance of our world and the changes occurring around us.”

The Youth Theatre began in November and we had a core group of regular participants working together to create a public performance in June.

This is an opportunity for young people to express through drama, writing, music and movement their inner-most ideas about our world in these times. Experienced theatre Director and Encounters Creative Associate Ben Yeger works weekly with the group and is using a variety of theatre approaches including clowning, physical theatre, improvisation, live art, forum theatre and verbatim theatre to express this.

“I feel far more comfortable working with others now and feel far more confident acting and improvising as a group.”
