Totnes Climate Hub were handed the keys this week to its new space on the high street at The Mansion. This will be a much needed resource for helping our community to navigate the effects of climate change and it's expected to open in the next few weeks.
To get going with its activities and engage with the community, the team behind it has organised an event on 'Reducing our Energy Costs Together', taking place on Monday 30th May at St John's Church, Bridgetown, 6.30-8.30pm. Local residents in Totnes and district are welcome to attend.
At the event, you will learn how you can reduce your energy costs with simple changes at home and discover local renewable energy projects that could help you reduce your bills. There will also be the chance to watch the film 'We the Power', which documents the potential of community-level change.
At a time when energy bills are rising at a shocking rate and we are recognising the risks of not being energy independent as a nation, we need to find new ways of doing things. For the most up to date information about events and opening times visit totnesclimatehub.info/events
Jem Friar (pictured above alongside Janet Botcherby, a volunteer coordinator at The Mansion), is among the Totnes Climate Hub team making it all happen. Last year, they successfully launched and have raised more than £27,000 through a Crowdfunding campaign. Jem says;
"We are busy organising how the new hub will be run. We had lots of feedback and suggestions form the local group events that we ran in March and are busy collating and assimilating all this into the overall plans.
"We hope to open the hub in the next few weeks with a launch that should consist of various activities, events and hopefully some fascinating speakers too. Watch out for further news and updates coming soon."
