An exciting opportunity to help address the climate emergency has been presented to us and we urgently need your support.
Thanks to the efforts of some of our climate change 'champions' recruited through our community engagement work, we've been successful in securing at least £2,500 from Devon County Council's (DCC) #BackTheFuture campaign. This will be put towards the opening of a Climate Change Response Centre in the heart of Totnes.
While this seed funding is guaranteed, we've been invited to compete with 9 other projects for a share of an additional £20,000 if we can raise enough funds in time. The first project to raise £5,000 on Crowdfunder will receive a top-up to match from DCC, so we really need donations to come in on day 1 for the best possible chance of success.
The campaign kicks off In just a few days' time on Monday September 6th at 9am, when the Crowdfunding page will go live . The sooner we reach that £5,000 initial target the better placed we will be to receive the total amount of match funding available.
How can you help?If you can do these three simple things to help support the campaign it will give us the best possible chance of securing this much-needed resource.
- Visit our Crowdfunding page on Monday 6th at 9am and donate as much as you can. We have already secured a number of rewards from local organisations and individuals, meaning you will get a bonus gift if we are successful in reaching our goals.
- Share our event on Facebook by ticking the button to say you are going and then inviting your friends via the mail icon.
- Join the Facebook Group to stay up to date with progress and contribute to the discussion about why we feel we need a Climate Change Response Centre and what we hope it will achieve.

Here's a brief description that explains a bit more about why we believe we need a Climate Change Response Centre in the first place:
We are creating a Climate Change Response Centre in the middle of Totnes town, to inspire, educate and enable the community to respond effectively, intelligently and creatively to climate and ecological breakdown at a local level. It will enable individuals, families, groups, businesses, organisations and councils to all make more sustainable choices, reduce their carbon footprints, protect nature and live in more regenerative and caring ways.
It will be a prominent building in the middle of Totnes that represents how important this situation is and will involve a coalition of many local groups with this ideology, with an array of solutions and responses that can be helpful.
