Community fun day
First up in a programme of events which will run over the next year, is this community day on Saturday, April 1st at Clay Park from 1-4pm. There will be a range of free, family-friendly activities including foraging, crafts, hula-hooping, scything demo, tree and wildlife identification, and more, along with teas and cakes. All are welcome and you are encouraged to bring a picnic, blanket, and games. More information, including directions, is available on the website.
Grant funding
Thanks to an award of £14,600 by the Postcode Local Trust — a grant-giving charity entirely funded by players of the People’s Postcode Lottery — Transition Homes Community Land Trust will be able to restore and enhance a part of the natural environment and provide our local community with an opportunity for recreation and learning.
We know from the consultation carried out by the Neighbourhood Planning Team and our own consultation process that the community is particularly keen to retain and enhance areas of wildlife habitat and increase biodiversity; Transition Homes will be working with local residents to develop a wild-flower meadow and a community orchard, to restore hedgerows, and to encourage more wildlife to Clay Park, the seven acre site it owns between Totnes and Dartington.
Residents of the affordable housing being built on part of the site, as well as the wider community, will be free to enjoy these green spaces, which will include seating and informative display boards. Longer term, everyone will enjoy sharing a harvest of orchard and hedgerow produce. Transition Homes will be providing training and education for local people around horticulture, conservation, and sustainability, through planting and ongoing care sessions. We intend to run seasonal foraging walks throughout the coming year.
