Based on the successful running of the NCFE Level 1 Sustainable Development course during the summer term, Bicton College are offering both Level 1 and Level 2 this autumn.
Futurebound is the title for the Level 1 course which will link in with the local youth-led initiative, The Living Projects, who recently secured permission to develop facilties on Borough Park which they recently had pumping at the 'Jam Fest' end of summer bash which they organised. They also have hopes to develop things on a piece of Dartington land.
Course tutors are Laura Denning of Sustainable South Brent and TTT's Hal Gillmore. "Each year we host many visiting young people on Transition Tours and other programmes that we run here," explains Hal, who runs the tours and education programmes through local social enterprise, FutureBound LTD. "They always get loads out of the experience but we have always wanted to find a way to make these activities accessible to local young people. I hope this is one way we begin to do that by providing a real practical course that ties in with exciting youth-led activity that is actually happening. Plus you get a qualification out of it." The course runs every Monday afternoon / evening 6th October to 22nd December with a one week break for half-term. More details here.
The Level 2 in Sustainable Development goes into more depth and is run in partnership with the REconomy Centre. It is suitable for anyone with an interest in sustainability, social entrepreneurship, community empowerment and community-scale projects and enterprise. It will build on the feedback we have had from the Level 1 course this summer...
“Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge over the past few weeks. You’ve inspired many lightbulb moments! It’s fascinating to meet people with such passion and understanding of their subject, that they can generate truly original thought.”
Again, it is a practical course taking you beyond the classroom to visit and learn from inspiring local initiatives from across South Devon, including Transition Town Totnes, and to develop techniques in planning, starting and evaluating projects of your own.
The course runs every Monday 0930-1430, from 6th October to 22nd December with a one week break for half-term. More details here.
