Sunday 5th January, 10 am to 1 pm, followed by a shared lunch then a tree care session from 2 to 4 pm
Follaton Arboretum
Facilitated by Larch Maxey, with Olly Frankland, Nicky Baines, Uwe, Annie and others – with Liz Turner in the afternoon
Start the year with some intimacy with trees! The first 2014 monthly session to help establish the new community forest garden at Follaton will be followed by a session to care for trees previously planted in the Arboretum under the Trees for Health project.
In the Follaton Arboretum, behind Follaton House's walled garden, there is now a young nursery for multi-purpose trees and other agroforestry plants, and further up, between the Trees for Health area and the track, the new forest garden, on a site with great views.
We hold family-friendly sessions on the first Sunday of each month. All are welcome, even if it's just to give some verbal support or to drop in for a while! We learn gardening skills from each other and enjoy ourselves! Tools provided.
In the morning we will be completing the path in the new forest garden and perhaps starting to establish a pond and sitting area - as well as continuing with some maintenance tasks and doing some planting. We will be sharing lunch from 1 pm (bring a contribution!) then joining Liz Turner of Trees for Health for some work on previously planted native trees with food/medicinal use (including moving a plum and quince to the forest garden).
Do come and join us – for as little or as long as you wish!
