Hello there! Thought I would take this opportunity to say “hello” and to introduce myself to those of you who haven’t met me yet. My name is Sophia (although I’m very happy to be called Bob to save confusion with the other Sophias, Sophys and Sophies involved with TTT!) and I moved to Totnes in October with my 6 year old son. Before that I was very heavily involved in Transition Glastonbury for some years (Core, Food, Buildings & Energy, Family Thing, Fashion & Textiles and Glastonbury Pound).
I started volunteering at the office a few months ago to help out when Lou suffered from morning sickness and now I shall be doing a few hours a week and in the office on Wednesdays while she is away on maternity leave. I shall be concentrating on putting together the monthly bulletin, calendar of events, keeping the website up to date, facebook and trying my hand at twitter (not something I’m that familiar with!). Therefore I felt it was important to try to get to know everyone as quickly as possible so that I can help with advertising what the groups are doing and finding out what else you need to help the smooth running of them. Two way communication is the key….. which leads me on to …
There have been various mentions of setting up a Communications Group and I believe it is something that would be really helpful to all areas of TTT. I know that most of you are very stretched for time but I believe that if we can get our message clear, we can engage more members of the community and hopefully enlist some more recruits to lighten the workload not to mention getting clear systems running internally so that all our time is used effectively! In the absence of a Coms Group for the moment though and before I go out there and start blurting out what it is that I think TTT is about, I wanted to ask for your input as its your Transition Town as much (if not more) than mine! Specifically, I’d like to ask:
- What is the most important message you feel that TTT should be sending out?
- What do you think is the most effective way of getting that message out?
- Is there any section of Totnes Community that you think should be specifically engaged with?
It would also be great to get any other suggestions or input that you are able to give. Similarly, if anyone is interested in joining a Coms group, hopefully in the autumn, with the view to putting together a communications (both internally and externally) strategy, please do get in touch (Sophia@transitiontowntown.org) and let’s get it going!
Looking forwards to hearing your thoughts on this and working with you on making Totnes the best town to live in anywhere!
