Adam and his Fungi Futures enterprise pitched to the TTT Entrepreneur Forum 2012:
During the last year this are some of his achievements:
- Came runner up in the Observer Ethical Awards
- Won the DEBI (Devon Environmental Business Intiative) award for best small business
- Featured on ITV's Hungry Sailors and BBC's Great British Food Revival
- Completly sold out of Mushroom Kits at Christmas (selling 4 times as many as the previous year)
- Turnover of £40,000 in 1st year
- Trained 100 people in Mushroom Cultivation
- Received visits from people in Hungary, Norway and Ireland, and interest from Australia, US, Spain, South Africa, Algeria, Lebanon, Greece, Italy
Plans for the Future:
- Close to setting up first Urban Mushroom Farm in Exeter, and another in London
- Begin to roll out the model for Urban Mushroom Farm through partnerships in cities
- Set up of Oyster Mushroom Spawn supply
- Launch national programme to recycle 20 tons of coffee waste in the next year
- Set up an online course to meet international demand
- Set up of consultancy service
The LEF helped us a lot last year in the following ways;
- made us evaluate exactly what was unique/special about what we were doing
- pitching at the Dragons Den helped us set out a clear plan to develop our business model which we have used througout the year
- linked us up with some interesting and influential people
- made us feel part of a growing movement of ethical / sustainable business
