How can we educate the next generation for resilience and sustainability? How can we help our children grow their consciousness?
The answer depends partly on who the children are, their age and life circumstances.
A recent initiative worked with two groups at Park School, Dartington – 6 to 9-year-olds and 9 to 11-year-olds. TTT Education group activists Mark Jefferys and Carlos Glover ran it and will continue this term. The initiative has had very good feedback.
The project drew from Earth Education, of which Mark is a trainer, and Earth Wisdom Teachings, which Carlos carries. It used the Medicine Wheel as a map and was based on experiential learning. The children learned by playing with energies in each of the eight directions of the Wheel.
Carlos commented: “If we help children have a good relationship with themselves, with each other and with the Earth, their other learning will come more easily. When they know how to be more present they have space inside to receive teaching, to respond rather than react and be more aware of self and others.”
This is a strand of education that will support future generations create a sustainable world of peace, high consciousness and the flowering of the human genius.
It needs to develop, and Mark and Carlos will seek support for this in the forms of partnerships, finance and so on.
They are offering an exciting presentation on the project to the community at 7.30pm on 21st November at Park School. Further details – contact Carlos on carlos@earthwisdomteachings.co.uk
