Printer-friendly versionPDF version

TUESDAY 21 NOVEMBER 2006
starting 7.30PM to 10PM, Bogan House

See below for linked documents: Proposals

Thanks for an encouraging opening meeting last week. About 30 people attended and I know that there are others who contacted me but were unable to come that night.
An exciting breadth of arts practice was represented and I anticipate that creativity will come up with some inventive and exciting ideas of how to support Transition Town Totnes.
We agreed then to meet again, in order to continue our brainstorming of what we could do. So the next date is
TUESDAY 21 NOVEMBER 2006 starting 7.30PM to 10PM suggested donation £1

If you can't come and want to put forward any ideas, or want to be added to the email list please contact me or post your thoughts on this web site in the attached pages above.
I haven't typed up the notes yet, but will get them done in time for the next meeting. I could do with a hand on the night with refreshments, chairs, and clearing up afterwards, I'll be there from 6.45pm. Thanks to those who helped clear up last week.

CORE GROUP We need a small core group of people to co-ordinate and move the ARTS group forward (I can't do it by myself), so if you are interested please contact me.

Proposals: We came up with:

365 Days of ARTS
• Calendar of arts events and activities on the TTT web site
to reflect what is already happening, without re-inventing the wheel
• any one can add to the TTT web site, or email Janey Hunt
• the event has an environmental (natural, social, economic or political) theme and subscribe to the aims of Transition Town Totnes

New Transition Town Totnes Tradition
either from the past or looking into the future

It was suggested that whatever we do
• needs to be meaningful to people (not just ourselves)
• answer a need (otherwise people will not be interested or take it up)
• based within local tradition or have a cultural reference that is familiar (give people something to latch onto).
• Reconnecting, anchoring,
• Celebrating
• Perhaps 4 seasons/solstice theme

Creative Hub
• Unit on industrial estate that has been empty for some time
cost of £127 per week plus £44 wk rates (which could be discounted/negotiated) (information from Bob Stephenson)
• Temporary spaces
eg Old video shop near Somerfield supermarket in the hands of Rendells
• The kitchen in Birdwood House as a possible café/meeting space. Other groups use it for teas/coffee. What about Sunday brunch??

Walks – local inspiration, re-learning locality
• Bob Mann – Moon Walks
• Valerie B?

Youth project
• Link with teachers and find out what schools are already doing
• Link with local youth club at Pulse and the Leisure Centre
• Youth Literature to raise interest
o Anne Ward? (illustrated books)
o Perhaps a comic strip competition
o ‘No choice’ theme, (as in adults have had the opportunity to indulge in unsustainable behaviour and make the choice to give it up, kids today may not have the luxury of choice)

PR Trojan Horse exercise,
something that grabs peoples attention and gets the project into the press. See suggestion below

Market Square events
• Paper airplanes – making and mass flying (and picking up afterwards)

River Routes
Re-valuing river transportation and communication, which also emphasises different ways of thinking other than roads.
• Making boats
• Linking communities on the river

Alternative Art School
• Summer
• Looking at traditional skills
• New eco-skills and art making
eg Viv Gooding’s film making using solar power
Re-contact Alan Boldon and Dartington students

Communal scrap book
• Something you’ve seen or inspiration to offer
• A reflection of the history in the making, themes, explorations and inspirations of TTT
• Is this a hard copy book or web version?

Creative Commons
• Valuing, sharing and exploring our A R T S practices through talks, presentations and workshops to our own arts community and beyond
