Are you researching Transition?
or maybe preparing a research bid and looking for a project partner?
We experience a large number of research requests. We shall do our best to give you all that you need but it can be difficult and we apologise in advance for any disappointment.
Please submit requests by email. Our office staff and volunteers are always busy and are not necessarily the most appropriate people to answer your questions and meet your specific needs. They will know who to forward your request on to.
Before contacting us, please be sure you properly understand the difference between Transition Town Totnes and the Transition Network (see below) and read the attached 'Statement on Research' (attached at bottom of this page).
MSc, PhD or other senior academic proposals - All enquiries are handled by selected members of our Education Group. These are people with appropriate academic backgrounds, best able to understand and meet your needs. They are volunteers so are unlikely to be able to give you an immediate reply.
Undergraduates and 6th Form - We hope there is sufficient information on this site and via the references given. We are unable to help with undergraduate projects, unless you are from Totnes and District or studying here. Sorry.
Requests to be a project partner for a research bid - Sorry to be mercenary but please think through what our needs will be before contacting us, eg cash, staff, time. We want to support anything that furthers Transition's objectives but we have very limited resources to do so. We welcome proposals that address our capacity needs. Please read the attached 'Statement on Research' (attached at bottom of this page).
The following is taken from the Transition Network which is better able to accommodate these requests than we are. They may also be able to point you to other Transition Initiatives that would suit your research better.
There is a growing number of academics and researchers (faculty and students) covering both PhD and MSc levels, engaging with Transition and the Transition Network. Initially, their work was typically around community involvement in sustainability. Latterly, we're seeing more niche type research into, for example, economic areas such as local complementary currencies.
If you are looking to research Transition either in Totnes or elsewhere do read on...
