An interactive community baord game for kids of 9-90.

Transition Tales presents a day of playing, discussing , and visioning.

The Transition Tales team, which has been focussing mainly on projects for young peopleover the past 12 months, is developing a board game called the Quest which challenges the competitive focus so well known in Monopoly with a cooperative game where the objective is to get as much Gross Community Happiness as possible! Gross National Happiness is a term coined by the king of the kingdom of Bhutan, which ranks as one of the happiest nations in the world. (see http://www.grossinternationalhappiness.org)

On Saturday members of the public are invited to have the unique opportunity to input into the Quest (in its prototype phase) before it reaches the stage of being offered to schools nationally as part of a series of workshops designed to empower children of all ages to get involved in deciding how they would like the future to be. The game, originally designed with teens in mind, was inspired by computer game quests, and is unique in that it is an interactive board game that works best with 30 players. It is played with 5 community boards with 6-8 players at each, and a central market place where the different communities can trade and exchange services, skills, and commodities, as well as seek advice from the elders and the future for the challenges they are presented with.

The event will culminate with a celebratory pot luck lunch at 2pm – so everyone should bring some food to share, and will get the chance to meet fellow players as well as hear the innovative stories told during the game about the future. The Quest is for young people between the ages of 9 and 90, and that they can only take 40 participants so it might be better to book your place at transitiontales@googlemail.com if you're thinking of going along.
