Energy and Public Health: The Challenge of Peak Petroleum
The US are starting to get to grips with assessing the public health risks of Peak Oil. Frumkin, Hess and Vindigni, National Center for Environmental Health and Agency for Toxic Substances, have just published a paper in 'Public Health Reports':
This is a really great document, covering almost all of the issues we have been discussing. Interestingly, although they warn that many pharmaceuticals are currently produced from petro-chemicals, they suggest that new sources could be used (presumably plant-derived). However this would still be a chemical process and as such hugely energy dependent. Of course they do not mention complementary therapy or herbal remedies....
