Our Purpose

TTT exists for the people of Totnes and District to help create thriving, healthy, caring local communities where people's ways of life take into account the needs of future generations as well as the present ones.  Rising fuel prices, economic uncertainty and climate change bring many challenges.  However, TTT focuses on these as opportunities to increase personal and community well being, to expand our local economy, and to establish ways of living that are in line with our Earth's natural systems.

We broadly aim to:

1 - explore and develop practical actions that will reduce our carbon emissions and dependence on fossil fuels, and

2 - strengthen the resilience of the communities that make up Totnes and District.

Transition in Action Objectives   Our next phase of development, Transition in Action, puts ideas from our Energy Descent Action Plan into action and has the following objectives:

  1. Build tangible, integrated infrastructure: our main focus is to deliver projects that build physical infrastructure that contributes to the ‘circle of resilience’ of our community in all 3 areas below, and which make the most of potential links and interactions.
  2. Create a new narrative: To capture and proactively share (locally, nationally and beyond) compelling narrative and stories about the work, learnings, outcomes and benefits of TTT.
  3. Better enable ourselves to deliver: To enable us to do the above, we have the following ‘internal’ objectives:

a)     Recruit an experienced general manager who will run TTT Services (set-up and co-ordinate good strategic and operational processes as defined in the job description);

b)     Ensure the financial sustainability of TTT;

c)     Continue to define and build good working partnerships with organisations that help us meet our goals (setting in place legal structures and financial agreements as appropriate);

d)     Implement a means to measure our progress towards our objectives, and ensure we have regular periods of time set-aside for evaluation & reflection.
