Things we would love to get some help with

Printer-friendly versionPDF version

Please see below for a list of current needs from TTT groups and projects - each posted as a separate 'comment'. If you would like to offer your help please make contact using the email address provided. Do not reply to the requests/comments as they are not necessarily monitored by the authors.

Note that you need to be registered and logged-in to see the requests/comments. To  do the quick and easy registration on this website (and also choose to subscribe to the monthly TTT bulletin) please click here.

Why do we ask you to be registered in order to see this list?

Using this standard 'comments' feature means that anyone can easily add requests to this section of the website. All the other content on the website can only be added by people who have been trained and who have special access rights. So hopefully this approach makes getting involved much easier. This is only an experiment - if you hate the idea of having to register but still want to see the list then contact us and let us know. All feedback is very welcome.

How do I add a new request?

Just click on 'Add new comment' below, provide a title and some detail of what you are looking for, along with a contact name, email address and/or phone number. Please only add things relating directly to TTT needs.

There are lots of other ways you can get involved with TTT - please do join us, you will be very welcome and we need all the help we can get!

Totnes Pound Volunteers

We could still do with additional help on the project. There are many roles that could be useful, from chatting with member businesses to helping with the accounts. Many of these would only require a few hours a month. If you fancy being involved with this pioneering project please get in touch.

Totnes Pounds

I have recently moved into Totnes. I would like to help in whatever way possible.

My wife works full time and I am looking after our daughter during the day but I am sure I could be of assistance somehow.

Thanks

Garden space that is underused?

If you have an unused patch of garden that you would be happy to share with a grower then please get in touch.

Use your unloved plot to grow cabbages, connections - even friends!

What do you get out of it?

A share of the produce, the pleasure of seeing a lovely developing vegetable plot, being part of a sharing initiative and a sense fo community.

This project matches and introduces committed, enthusiastic, and respectful growers with local garden owners who want to see their gardens being used more productively.

For more information please contact Lou on 01803 867358.

Volunteers needed to help distribute posters and programmes

Fancy spending an hour or so once a week going around the Totnes Shops distributing TTT Posters and Programmes for upcoming events? We really need people to help us put posters around the town and beyond. Maybe you live on the outskirts of Totnes or in a nearby town and could take a poster or two to your local shop regularly? If you have any time spare to help us put posters up and about we would love to hear from you.

All  this last year's posters came to you thanks to our fantastic volunteer Simone, who has done a wonderful job of spreading them far and wide. Thank you for all your hard work over the year Simone...

Help distributing stuff.

We have just moved into Fore Street, I am sure we could help with the distrubution of stuff in the town centre.

Thanks

Andy Smith

 Thanks,

Lou

Help TTT reach out to more people

We need volunteers who know something about TTT and who are passionate about getting more people, and a greater diversity of people, on board.

To begin with, this means staffing our weekly stand at the Friday market which, if we have enough volunteers, we would like to start running every other Saturday too.

Next year we want to get out to as many vilage shows as possible for which we need volunteers and invitations.

We also need some cash! If you want to give directly to support this key objective of TTT, such as by paying for a feature in the Totnes Times or helping us hire a tent for the Totnes show, please contact Hal.

We have a list of needs which we wll update regularly.  For further information on how you can help please click here. For further information on what we are about please click here.

Help needed with our TTT website - technical and 'super users'

Are you a technical web expert and would like to help us maintain and develop this website further? You would work initially with our current technical volunteer to learn about our set-up which uses DRUPAL technology, then take on some specific responsibilities as you like. Even an hour a week would be a great help. For now the time is unpaid but increasingly we hope to have some funding available, for some of the work at least.

We also need 1-2 'super users' that we can train up about how to use our website e.g. add content, add users etc that can support our TTT authors and the wider user base.

Please contact fionawardttt@googlemail.com if you can help. Many thanks.

Raising TTT issues with local healthcare providers

The Health and Wellbeing Group would like to open a discussion with local healthcare providers, to raise the issues of climate change and energy insecurity. We hope to enable healthcare providers to be able to meet guidelines on 'carbon footprint' reduction recently set out by NHS Sustainable Development Unit. Please click here to email us, to find out more and add your name to a letter to your local healthcare provider.

TTT Stall at Totnes Friday Market

Help is needed with the Friday outreach stall both for Fridays 11am - 1pm, in general but particularly over the summer break.

Phone Wendy on 01803 868305.

Frustrated and maddened by traffic filled streets?

The Transport Group is looking for someone to co-ordinate ideas from others looking to change our use of transport in this community. This is to contribute to the town's Energy Descent Plan which is beginning to take shape. Contact Robert Vint on 01803 862369

Join the cycling group, contact Jim on 01803 862369.

Choosing to fly but want to plant or tend trees to compensate

Join the Totnes nut-tree planting scheme. You could donate money to buy trees, lend a hand with planting next winter or train as a tree guardian to tend the trees in your neighbourhood. If there are public spaces close to your home that need brightening up with a tree or trees, let us know. Contact Wendy on 01803 868305

Support the spread of the local currency

More enthousiasts are needed to promote this innovative tool for developing a localised economy. Commit to spending a certain number of Totnes Pounds a week and help us use the money to support local business. Get involved in managing and promoting the scheme. Contact Noel on 01803 840309

Reduce energy consumption in the town

Help promote our transition to greener sources of energy. TTT Energy group invites you to source your energy from Good Energy.

Good with computers

We need people with computer expertise to keep the web site up to date and develop it with good links and so on. Each group is responsibile for maintaining its own web page and the admin team do their best to maintain the other pages, but we are all busy and some of us are quite new to computer work, we desperately need your help. Contact almost any of the groups to offer your services on maintaining their home page, and you will be welcomed, especially by Naresh. Contact him at georgegiangrande@yahoo.co.uk or contact Lou and Noni in the office. We need you.

Want to do something about food?

Join with others working towards setting up a Community Supported Agriculture Scheme or a Community Health and Wellbeing Garden. Two groups are forming to pursue these aims. For more information look on the Calendar of Events or contact Noni on 01803 867358 about CSA or Neil at nchadborn@yahoo.co.uk about the Garden.

Good at selling?

We need you to help us encourage more people to join our Solar Water Heating Scheme. Contact Naresh on georgegiangrande@yahoo.co.uk

TTT Outreach - help us raise awareness

We are very aware of the need to reach further into the Totnes community and enagage a wider range of people. At the open meeting, someone had the great idea of using Bogan House as a 'shop front' for TTT - somewhere central, visible, welcoming and accessible (unlike our offices on Fore Street!) for anyone to find out more about TTT. If we could get some space there (including window space), provide lots of info, and staff it with volunteers - just for a few hours on market day to start with? - that would be brilliant. Some TTT volunteers have trialled a 'market stall' which was very popular with local people and visitors alike.

We need someone to help make this shop-front happen - to see if we can use this venue, if not what else is available for low/no cost, to co-ordinate volunteers, to decide what info to present and how etc. You would have access to people and materials from TTT and it would be a great way to get up to speed on all that TTT are up to.

We are also keen to have an Outreach Team that can be trained up in 'Giving a talk about TTT' to a wide range of local community organisations and clubs, ranging from the scouts, church groups, lunch clubs. Perhaps you are good at public speaking and are happy to give an hour or two now and then, or perhaps you have links with local clubs/groups that you think would be interested in having such a talk.

Please do get in touch if you can help with these things, or if you have other ideas about further engaging the local community. Thanks.

If you would like to get involved in this Outreach Project then please let us know (contact us at the office).

OUTREACH

Hi,

I am moving to Totnes in a few weeks and really want to get involved in TTT. The outreach project sounds really exciting. I have experience of running groups/ teaching and would like to know more-

I'll be popping into the office at  the beginning of November- look forward to getting involved,

regards, Julie

Hi Julie, thanks for getting

Hi Julie, thanks for getting in touch - apologies for tardy reply.  We look forward to meeting you in November.  If you want to learn more about the Transition process in the meantime, I recommend getting hold of a copy of the Transition Handbook.

Good luck with the move!

Heart and Soul Website updating

The Heart and Soul group has done a lot of things and has information on them but very little time to add this to the website. If you are interested in the Heart and Soul group and could spare some time to organise and upload the information that would be fantastic. We will provide training on how to do this.

Email heartandsoul.totnes@transitionnetwork.org  if you might be interested
